COURSE REVIEWS

John,

Just wanted to take a minute to say thanks again and let you know how impressed I was with your how you taught the CCSD class.

I've spent the better part of the last decade as the chief firearms instructor for the protective security division of a large threat assessment firm, before then active duty in the Corps. I've been fortunate enough to train under Louis Awerbuck, Jeff Gonzales, Max Joseph, Scotty Reitz, Bill Murphy, Bill Skiles, Dennis Tueller, Dave Grossman, Gabe Suarez, Steve Tarani, and many more talented individuals. I was fortunate enough to be a guest in Col. Coopers home one evening were he shared a few ideas on adopting the right mindset for this calling. I've attended Gunsite, Sig Academy, Surefire institute, Glock, and dozens more shooting and tactical schools. I'm mentioning all of this to really reinforce what I'd like to say next- your two day CCSD course was one of the best introductory training course I have attended- ever.

The class room presentation was about as good as it gets in when it comes to inculcating the proper mindset required for those who accept the responsibility of being true "citizens"
and standing up to the "human animals" who prey on the innocent. Your range sessions were professional, thorough and relevant to training for real life encounters- not something we always see in today's fellow instructors. Lastly, your enthusiasm and motivation made the two days a pleasure. I'd recommend your class to anyone searching for quality self defense training.

Jeff Gonzales taught me a saying "Vale La Pena" -It is worth the effort...thank you for putting in the effort- it really showed in the last weekend's course.

Best,
C.S.

"This was a two-day, 16-hour class. Four hours in a classroom setting and 12 hours on the range. The in-class setting was held by John Murphy, the owner/instructor for FPF Training. John went through a lot of very valuable material in four hours, ranging from when to act and when to stand down, but more importantly, how to avoid a negative situation to begin with. I don’t know how long it took John to put together his slide-show, but it was impressive to say the least. I originally walked in thinking I could handle myself in a defensive situation, but within the course of a few hours and a few videos, I soon realized I did not know as much as I thought I did. John gave a great history lesson and short legal overview regarding what to do and what not to do when the shooting ends in a defensive situation. Falling asleep was not a problem. I was not bored at any point in time, but if I was, rest assured that John’s voice would cure that. For a man of maybe five-foot seven – and I am being nice – he is loud! His points ring clear in your mind by the end of class.

"Instructor's Note! Some instructors are in your face, drill sergeant types. Others "pierce the veil" and become to much part of the class with the students. NEITHER are John. Make no mistake, John runs a tight range. There are rules designed specifically for safety, his and yours. Plus, it is a hot range. Put bluntly, we are there to learn to deal with life or death shit, and an unloaded weapon does you no good. Unsafe gun handling will get you "love". Not being ready to fight at a moment's notice will get you "love". Sometimes its tough love, sometimes not. But it is always in the spirit to teach. It is never degrading, it is always constructive. There is always a purpose. He isn't hesitant to jump you if you need it, but its exactly as it needs to be. The easiest way to instruct is to manifest respect for your students and yourself. To demonstrate competence and confidence in what you are imparting and what you are doing. It is a great opportunity to take a class with John that so effectively does this."

"Course was held in Culpeper, Virginia. At first, this was a disqualifier for me as I thought the distance was too much. Circumstances dictated otherwise, and I ended up traveling and am SO GLAD I DID! What a tremendous course. I traveled from Berryville, each day, about an hour and 20 minutes, but really not bad, and since no hotels local for a good price, wasn’t that big of a deal.

Class started about 8, and for just about 4 hours there was course instruction. Demonstrations, Videos, Visual aids, and Instruction. Questions were appreciated, and the time flew by. I took as many notes as I could, maybe one other wrote a bit, and others didn’t write a thing. John paced everything to match all concerned, and was very informative. I wish I had the power point just to review it again…

Ate a quick bite and then to the range, about 6 miles south of Culpeper. Range is…. AWESOME. Very nice, wish it was in my “backyard.” There are not facilities, but will be in the future. For ladies, the owner was generous in allowing them to use facilities in the home if they required.

Range time, again, Awesome."
